Géza Szőcs / Poetry Recitals at Müpa Budapest
His political involvement and premature death have obscured the fact that Géza Szőcs was one of Hungary’s most outstanding and exciting contemporary poets.
His political involvement and premature death have obscured the fact that Géza Szőcs was one of Hungary’s most outstanding and exciting contemporary poets.
Our evening will make up for what was lost by shining the spotlight of posterity down on an entire career and the classical world of a very special and incomparable oeuvre, looking past Szőcs’s main works, and into the secret, less familiar realms of his lyricism. By evoking his poetic world, at once deeply tragic and playfully lightfooted, with roots in Transylvanian tradition, we seek to paint a truly memorable portrait of one of the greats to an audience open to poetry.
