First, two smaller black vinyl records were released, followed by a compilation album in 1956. Monk is truly an epoch-making genius, his music is sometimes ironic, sometimes lyrical, but always surprising. His melodies are unpredictable, his rhythms unusual, his harmonies groundbreaking – pointing the way forward for modern jazz. The concert will feature a selection of quintet and sextet compositions from the albums.
