This festive concert by Concerto Budapest, conducted by former Kurtág student András Keller and featuring world-class soloists, presents a cross-section of the 100-year-old György Kurtág's oeuvre.

Season Ticket ‘Dohnányi’

The 1924 silent film by Buster Keaton, the deadpan burlesque master of the stony face who always took extraordinary risks both as an actor and a director, will be screened before the Müpa audience on this occasion with improvised organ accompaniment.

Igazi különlegességgel készül a Müpa Valentin-napra: a Bartók Béla Nemzeti Hangversenyteremben eredeti zenéjével szólal meg Charlie Chaplin klasszikusa, a Nagyvárosi fények.

The organ, this instrument that is at once acoustic and mechanical in character, can evoke in us, through its sound alone or even merely on account of its sheer visual presence, a sense of vastness spanning immense distances. For this concert, however, the organ is joined by a saxophone and live electronics to blend elements of classical and contemporary music with jazz to produce an unclassifiable, improvisatory performance that makes this expansive horizon even more breathtaking than usual.

A darab főhőse, Tom átlagos fiatalember, akit egy pillanat alatt rabul ejt a könnyű gazdagság és hírnév ördögi ígérete. A fausti egyezség során a sátáni Nick mesteri módon manipulálja a fiút, aki otthagyja szerelmét és követi Nicket a teljesítmény és befektetett munka nélkül kínált siker álomvilágába. Az út azonban a kárhozatba vezet. A zene parodisztikus jellege és a rendezés komikus elemekben bővelkedő formanyelve a fiatalok számára is könnyen befogadhatóvá teszi ezt a produkciót, hiszen a darab több olyan problémára tapint rá, ami digitalizált, közösségi média által uralt világunkban különösen a fiatal generációt érinti.

Taking the stage together with one of the world’s most celebrated orchestras at this concert will be two illustrious sons of musical families: Paavo Järvi, who hails from a family of conductors, and Alexandre Kantorow, a pianist born to violinist parents.

The dice and the stopwatch will be coming out again at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall as it hosts another round of musical ‘battle’. When we talk about instrumental duels in the Hungarian capital these days, it is no longer necessarily Bach and Marchand, or even Liszt and Thalberg, that we are thinking of, because we have our own riveting concert series right here at Müpa Budapest.

Silver Bear-winning filmmaker Dénes Nagy spent four years following György Kurtág’s everyday life with his camera. The resulting documentary, produced between 2021 and 2025, far exceeds the conventional boundaries of the genre.

Legendák Ligája – A zongorapárbaj

The Liszt Museum holds matinee concerts every Saturday at 11 A.M. The chamber recital by the Hungarian-New Zealand Dolfin-Lin cello-piano duo ranges from Brahms' sonata, a staple of the traditional romantic chamber music repertoire, to Bartók's composition, which experiments with folk music, to the Hungarian premiere of Gao Ping's sonata, subtitled "Departure," a work with a very special atmosphere.

One of the organ’s most promising young stars and the winner of last year’s St Albans International Organ Competition, the Jena-born Alexis Grizard steps up as the soloist for this concert promising two monumental compositions. Ferenc Liszt’s most extensive organ work is often referred to as “The Organ Sonata in B minor”.
