The idea for The Nutcracker ballet came from theone-time director of the Tsarist theatre who, based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s fairy tale entitled the Nutcracker and the Mouse King, wanted to stage a fairy tale ballet that would surpass all that had gone before, both in sound and in spectacle. Tchaikovsky was asked to compose the music and after Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty his third and final ballet was also a great success. It was the six-movement suite of the music of The Nutcracker that was first performed in March 1892, and in December of the same year the spectacularly presented theatrical work was also performed. The Nutcracker has become the most frequently played ballet piece of all time.

Why is the 400-year-old story of Romeo and Juliette, the world’s best known romantic tragedy, still so relevant today? Because love is eternal, the rebelliousness of youth persists, and the world is still filled with inexplicable contraditions.

One evening – two dance productions by the Szeged Contemporary Dance Company.

What we present is not the story of Kahlo’s life but an independent visual theatre vision inspired by her art and career about a dramatic but also colourful and lively world.

This production of the FrenÁk Company features adynamic team, the members of a new generation. The young, creative dancers draw on the energies of their colourful cultural and linguistic differences as they bring a new creative approach to FrenÁk’s concept. It is a fusion of the arts, a multimedia work with two contrasting yet complementary parts that reflect on the contradictions of our times.

Confinement and isolation, freedom and endlessness. FrenÁk’s emotionally charged choreographic structures use dynamic forms of movement to gain visibility and captivate the audience.

With this performance, we want to convey the message that traditional culture lives on in all of us who believe in the value of keeping tradition alive—because tradition defines our future!

A betyárok a magyar néphagyomány legizgalmasabb alakjai. Történeteik átszövik népdalainkat, mondáinkat, balladáinkat, sőt, még népművészetünk tárgyi emlékei is őrzik az emléküket. Nem csoda, hogy a nép emlékezetében sokszor már-már hősként élnek tovább – ők a „magyar Robin Hoodok”.

A betyárok a magyar néphagyomány jellegzetes alakjai. Népdalok, népmondák, balladák őrzik híres betyárjaink emlékét, de tárgyi népművészetünknek is kedvelt témái a betyárábrázolások. Alakjuk a népi emlékezetben gyakran idealizált hősként maradt fenn.

Mire vágyik valójában az ember? Nehéz a válasz, hiszen egy tökéletesre teremtett világból a kiutat, a kiűzetés után az Édenbe vezető visszautat keresi folyton folyvást. Éva és Ádám című est ezzel az univerzális kérdéssel foglalkozik, két fiatal koreográfus alkotó mozgásnyelvén és művészi megjelenítésén keresztül.

A Székely gate is a symbol of ancient power, faith, hope, belonging to God, a channel of communication between heaven and earth. Its three posts represent the unity of body, soul and spirit, and its carvings are symbols that render protection, grace and blessing.

Rhapsody as a genre is characterized by caprice and the passionate undulation of emotion, thoughts, and the freedom of expression. Hungarian Rhapsody incorporates all of the peculiarities of thegenre, relying on tradition, and drawing inspiration from it, to create a special and unique dance rhapsody.
