Miles Davis, one of the most recognisable figures in jazz history, would have celebrated his hundredth birthday in 2026. To mark the occasion, a star trumpet player in the world of contemporary jazz, Ambrose Akinmusire, has come together with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra to embark on a joint tour, honour the giant of the genre, pay tribute to his legacy, and go beyond it by creating new works and inventive arrangements that reimagine the Miles Davis’s genius in the context of modern jazz.

The 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic are a unique ensemble, composed exclusively of instrumentalists from the cello section of one of the world’s top symphony orchestras.

After recording operas by Rameau and his contemporaries, György Vashegyi now conducts Armide, the masterpiece by Louis XIV’s court composer, Jean-Baptiste Lully. Lully’s final lyric tragedy premiered in 1686 and was performed at the Paris Opera until 1766, when it was overshadowed by Gluck’s version of the story based on the same libretto.

Richard Strauss and Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s last joint opera, Arabella is a cheerful and poignant farewell to a bygone, peaceful Vienna. It now returns to the MET’s repertoire in Otto Schenk’s 1983 production, following his sad passing this year.

We are delighted to be able to welcome back to Müpa Budapest one of the world’s most successful orchestras. The Vienna Symphony Orchestra, which turns 125 this year, raised the roof at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall in 2021.

Now 89 years old, and active since the 50s, the Brazilian Hermeto Pascoal is one of the biggest living legends in the Latin jazz world, yet he has never performed in Budapest before. He started out making music with the stars of the local scene in the 60s, and was making records with Miles Davis by 1971.

Openness and attention to detail are the hallmarks of the Austrian cellist Valerie Fritz’s musical philosophy, whether we are talking gut strings or electronic instruments, early music or contemporary works. She believes that the way to communicate effectively with the audience is through carefully compiled programmes and original concert formats.
