Dániel Csengery: Frau Holle
Children's opera in one act, in Hungarian.
Age: 8-14 year

The music for the opera - adapted from the well-known fairytale - closely resembles the character of its young hero, Aliz, who is unafraid of risk, and bravely leaps into the unknown with the aim of doing good. The music is colourful, inventively arranged, energetic, melodic and thrillingly harmonised. Exactly the type of music the ever curious heart and ears of children are receptive to. The new opera doesn't just seek to narrate its exciting story, but also to introduce younger audiences to the genre of opera, with its characteristic elements and complex relationship with theatre and music. In the most noble meaning of the word: an initiation. Directed by János Szemenyei, a versatile talent of musical theatre, and replete with great roles, Frau Holle features a cast of excellent artists, so there is plenty to keep new and old lovers of the genre immersed in the universe of this fresh play.

Due to the excessive use of lights and sound effects, we do not recommend this performance to those with epilepsy and other conditions with similar sensitivity issues.

A prize-winning work of the 2020 Müpa Budapest Music Competition.
The première was an event of the Bartók Spring 2023.

Before the performance, between 9.45 and 10.30, we will be running a free (and playful) interactive session for children entitled Tune-up. We look forward to welcoming both school groups and individual school-age youngsters attending the subsequent performance. Please register via junior@mupa.hu by midnight on the Tuesday before the performance, specifying the number of participating children and their ages. The activity is recommended for children aged 8 and over, and will take place with a minimum of six children.

Our offer

Time and again, Budapest Bár delights the Müpa Budapest audience with their special performances and outstanding collaborators. On this occasion, the ensemble has been invited by Nők Lapja magazine to take the stage in the company of some very special guests. Róbert Farkas, the band’s leader and founder, originally aimed to breathe new life into the genre of Gypsy café music, thereby preserving and revitalizing old traditions.

The Garden of Lights will once again invite visitors to the magical world of a wonderful, cultic fairy tale in the Budapest Füvészkert for the 2025/26 season. The theme of this year's special light and multimedia exhibition is the story of the eternal child Peter Pan.
